About the Service Center > Mission Statement

Our Mission...

Our mission as a service center is to be an ongoing resource, and to provide for staff development that is results-driven, systems thinking, and constructivist in approach. Our intended outcome is increased performance for adult education students, instructors, and programs.

CIAESC delivers staff development to Community College and Public School Adult Education programs, Community Based Organizations, Evenstart, ESL, Family Literacy Programs, Regional Offices of Education, Department of Corrections Education programs, and other entities related to adult education. On-site and regional workshops are presented by CIAESC resource specialists and other staff/consultants according to assessed needs of programs throughout the center's service region. CIAESC utilizes innovative technologies (e.g. multi-media presentations and kits, CD-ROM development, the Internet, and distance learning opportunities) to further effective training, practices, and resources in adult education. Professionally designed and edited training manuals and other publications produced by CIAESC staff are available for purchase through Curriculum Publications Clearinghouse at Western Illinois University.

A resource library maintained by CIAESC provides print materials, videotapes, and computer software free of charge to adult education program personnel. CIAESC also facilitates regularly scheduled Family Literacy, Workforce Education, special learning Needs, ABE, and ESL Provider Group meetings. These networking opportunities facilitate the exchange and sharing of information among participants.
